Live Diplo set

Diplo is possibly the only ever international DJ to ever tour to Darwin and Arnhem Land (where he was doing some workshops at an Aboriginal community). He played a sick show to about 70 people at Happy Yess (a waiting-for-demolition shopfront with a capacity of 50) last year. It was one of the best nights I've had in my two years up here. Diplo was back in the country in the last few weeks (not up here I'm afraid) and the guys at Opulent got a feed from the mixing desk. Check it out:

Best Aussie song

WARNING: This video and blog contains images of band members who have recently died.

Mags, papers, magazines and the like love to run the old "What are the best 20 Aussie songs of all the time?". Saw one just the other day, and once again the Warumpi Band was overlooked. Sure there is some tough competition, but these guys deserve to at least crack the top 20.

Blackfella Whitefella is, firstly, catchy as hell. Who doesn't love sing it? And bush reggae is Aussie as.

But it's also got a great message about reconciliation (which I thought we all loved these days). And maaaaaaate!ship.

Get Nice mix #2 : "Ladyfinger"

This is a short and sweet (like a ladyfinger) 110bpm mix I did on 105.7 here in Darwin to promote last weekend's gig. A mix of my found interest in disco with old school hip hop, big load of dancehall and even some country.

+ Get Nice #2 "Ladyfinger" by Bashment Jack

Pump Me Up - Trouble Funk
* Not to go on about the 'golden age', but hip hop used to share a lot of good times with disco. Watch for the sporty shorty.

In the Silver White Box - In Flagranti

Kilometre - Sebastian Tellier

Red Alert Riddim - South Rakkas Crew

Wine Gal - Beenie Man

Tek Weh Yr Self - Mr Vegas
* Haven't fully got my head around the lyrics, but seems to be an anti badman song - watch out for the bad man with the bad mind.

Hercules Theme - Hercules + Love Affair

Jolene - Dolly Parton
* Country music : my other love.

Get That Money - Ms Thing
* anybody know the name of this riddim? Or know the name of the Turbulence or Baby Cham on the same riddim?

Take me to the carnival

Great mix by Marflix from Berlin - perfect listening for Darwin's build-up weather (we had our first storm last night!).

+ Oye Come Va mix by Marflix

via Cyan Wait ... whose Tim Turbo has himself just posted a mighty fine mix online.
